Hornsgatan in Stockholm - A little more fun shopping

It's time for the next area on Söder to be included in the shopping guide "My Stockholm favourites". Join us at Hornsgatan!

A while ago I made a post about mine favorite places in SoFo on Södermalm. Now it's time to shop our way through another area on Söder - Hornsgatan! A little more forgotten, a little more traffic heavy, a little messier and far from cosy. Hornsgatan is not beautiful, but it is definitely Södermalm's aorta. There are many bulk stores here, but actually also some of Stockholm's more unique little gems for stores. Tune in to “My Stockholm favourites" Part 2!

CANDY SHOP

Licorice root

I admit. I am a licorice lover. When I pick loose sweets, it's always just licorice in various forms. Licorice with sour, licorice with chocolate or just really damn super salty licorice. There's a licorice for every occasion! The best store for me is Likritsroten on Hornsgatan. A heaven only with licorice - everything from Finnish tar tablets to licorice tea and licorice ketchup.

TEA SHOP

The Tea Center of Stockholm

The nicest little tea shop The Tea Center of Stockholm has most of what is needed for you to enjoy a perfect cup of tea at home on the sofa. For over 40 years the shop has been here and if you've ever had a cup of 'Southern Blend', that blend was invented here. Stop here and buy the original - it's so much better than the supermarket copies!

CHEESE SHOP

Old Amsterdam

If you like cheese, Old Amsterdam is the shop for you. Here there are enticing descriptions of the cheeses (with wine tips!) and there are usually tasting samples to help you find the right one. Every single time I'm here I find a new favorite cheese to buy home.

FLOWERS

Ginkgo Flowers

Although I don't have green fingers, I like easy-care, green plants. Not flowers in all possible colors - but big, green, fat and lovely leaves. At Ginkgo there are as many green plants as possible and a large selection of beautiful cacti and stylish pots. A good place for all of us who need plants that can survive without water for a few days.

QUATROGRANOS

Mahalo

A vegan cafe with lots of color and flavors - and really good coffee. This is a great place to take a break from shopping, even if you're not vegan.

FURNISHINGS

African species

For over 50 years, Afroart has been selling handicrafts from the third world. In the beginning it was mostly African crafts, but now things are sold here from all over the world. Here you can find many nice things and unique things for the children's room, but also textiles, porcelain and wooden items. Afroart buys directly from the artisans or through organizations affiliated with the World Fair Trade Organization.

PENCILS

Pen Store

Do you remember how every year before the start of school you bought new pencils, pencil cases and erasers? I wish this store had existed when I was of school age. The pen that is not here - it does not exist! A good place even if you are looking for nice notebooks and paper.

RESTAURANT

Barobao

The place that the daughter often wonders if we shouldn't go in and have dinner. Barobao serves trendy Chinese/Asian pick-me-up food, where their pork belly bao* with peanuts and coriander is one of the best we know. Order at least two at once - because you'll want more! Popular place, try to hang on the lock when they open.

JAPANESE STUFF

Sway Gallery

You can find all kinds of Japanese design, gadgets and art at Sway Gallery. A small shop with not only things, but also workshops and exhibitions. Stop by here and enjoy beautiful things and buy a nice kitchen towel or maybe some nice garden stuff.

GALLERY

Gallery Contrast

A gallery with only photo art = a gallery for me. I especially usually take the opportunity to visit the gallery when the "Picture of the Year" exhibition is on, but there are interesting exhibitions all year round. At the entrance you can also buy photo books, photo art and fine postcards.

ANTIQUES AND CURIOSITIES

The fire station

Oh how I love old and unique things! The fire station has a well-selected mix of old and new, all so that you can make your home as wonderfully personal as you want it to be. A wonderful place to walk around and botanize among beautiful things.

Second hand clothes

Hornsgatan has undoubtedly Stockholm's best second-hand shops. Here you will find everything from vintage Dior to barely used Filippa K dresses. Unique, fresh and exciting.

    • Hornsgatan is often forgotten - a little too long and a little too messy for a cozy walk. But between Götgatan and Zinken is a rather interesting stretch with many exciting shops! Not to mention the ice cream stands - but that will probably be a separate post in the spring :)
