North Macedonia is a country where history, everyday life and landscape meet in close proximity. I experienced the country on a trip from Ohrid to Skopje. In Skopje, Ottoman quarters are mixed with modern urban development and lively squares. At Lake Ohrid, one of Europe's oldest lakes awaits, with monasteries, cobbled alleys and a calm that sets the pace. To the west, at Lake Prespa, lies Spirit of Prespa – a family farm where fruit growing and agrotourism show a more rural side of the country.
