Just west of Billesholm in northwestern Skåne lies Mölledammarna – a calming place that greets visitors with tranquility, history and the most beautiful colors of autumn. We visited the ponds for an afternoon hike on a sunny October day and found a forest that was completely ablaze with copper and gold.

Although Mölledammarna is mentioned on the Bjuv municipality website as a popular walking area, there is surprisingly little information about the area when you search around. There is no large sign showing where the parking lot is from the main road, just a simple road sign without either a tourist attraction symbol or any symbol for the natural area.
As you follow the road all the way, the parking lot appears, but despite the discreet signage, there were several cars there when we arrived. It gives the feeling that the place is a bit of a local secret tip, where people who know the area find it, while the rest of the world almost has to discover it on their own.

On a map at an information sign below the parking lot, the walking trails that run through the forest and around the ponds are drawn, which at least helps those of us who are here for the first time.
The dams were built in the 18th century, in connection with the early attempts to mine coal here. Coal was discovered in 1744 and mining continued until 1796, before it moved to Höganäs. But you no longer see any traces of that time when you walk here today, the dams are now more like a peaceful lake.

The paths around the ponds are well-maintained, and the 2,7-kilometer loop around the area is a perfect walk for a Saturday. At a leisurely pace, the walk takes just over half an hour. But on a day like this, it takes a little longer. You want to walk slowly, listen to the rustle of leaves under your feet, and stop and enjoy the splendor of colors.

How do I find it? Mölledammarna?
Mölledammarna is located in northwestern Skåne, about 15 kilometers east of Helsingborg. Drive Risekatslösavägen south from Risekatslösa, follow the sign to Mölledammarna just before the road crosses Boserupsvägen. There is parking and a toilet. Fishing is not allowed in the ponds.
A tip: On Christmas Day, organizes Friluftsfrämjandet Söderåsen their traditional bingo walk around Mölledammarna, where you are offered mulled wine and gingerbread halfway through. It is a simple but popular tradition that brings together both villagers and visitors. A perfect opportunity to work off some of the Christmas food and drink and maybe win something too.

Wow, what beautiful pictures.
Thank you! It's just so beautiful when the beech and oak trees change color in the fall. Do you have a favorite area in your area? There must be large beech forests there too!
