The visit to Brno was made in connection with a press trip together with Visit the Czech Republic, but all thoughts and opinions are (as usual) my own.
Right in the center of Brno in the south of the Czech Republic, on the lively Cabbage Square, is the Grandezza Palace hotel. In a building that looks like a stately palace from the 18th century, it offers comfortable rooms and a perfect location in the Czech Republic's gastronomy city.
Location *****
Grandezza Palace could not possibly have a better location in Brno. The hotel is located in the middle of the old town on Kåltorget with its vegetable and flower vendors. St. Peter and Paul Church is a 5-minute walk away, and Spilberk Castle is around 10 minutes away. Restaurants and cafes line every street corner, so if you live here you have everything you need within walking distance.
Room ****
I check into a large double room with a view of Kåltorget. The style is classic, with a very comfortable and wide double bed, two armchairs with a small table and a desk. There is also a small safe, where you can lock the passport when you are out on the town.
The bathroom is in beige marble, with a bathtub with shower, sink and toilet. The bathroom is well equipped and has everything you need in terms of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and skin cream. There are also tops and swim caps and a hair dryer (which works unexpectedly well).
The room is very well cleaned and everything feels fresh and welcoming. The only thing that can be a little difficult is the bathtub and the shower. There is a very high step to get into the shower and then the shower glass is quite low. There is also no rain shower, but you have to hold the shower head in your hand if you don't want to sit down in the tub and shower.
Service ***
I didn't use room service or any other type of service at the hotel, but the staff I met were very nice and helpful! When I asked at the reception for a shop to buy a souvenir, the receptionist accompanied me all the way out into the street to show me the way. It's not often you come across such help!
The hotel also has a relaxation area with a jacuzzi and a gym, which I did not try.
For those of you who have a dog, the information says that the hotel is dog-friendly.
Breakfast ****
Classic hotel breakfast in nice premises with quiet music and a view towards Kåltorget. Here you could find everything you could want, everything from cold cuts to hot dishes, fruit, juices and a large selection of sweet pastries. The coffee was served at the table and the staff were quick to remove the plates. The only thing I missed was an egg station and freshly baked waffles or pancakes.
If I'm going to recommend you try something Czech, I'd say try the creamy egg salad - it was really good.
The bottom line
A pleasant stay in a nice hotel with a good location in the middle of the Czech Republic's second largest city. I could live here again!
