Cozy cafes in Scania – 11 favorites (2022)

Among Skåne's rape fields and beech forests, you will find plenty of cozy cafes, ice cream kiosks and lunch spots. Here are 12 of my favourites, from all corners of Skåne.

Skåne is a paradise for those who like coffee. If you head straight out among the rape fields, you'll find places serving home-baked cakes and well-prepared lunches where you least expect it. We often check White guide for tips on where to find the juiciest cinnamon buns, the creamiest ice cream or the best coffee - but the vast majority of the tips below you won't find on their list. This list is rather places that we like and that we would like to visit again - for the nice environment, the well-made coffee, the creamy ice cream or the beautiful lunch.

Cozy cafes in Skåne have raspberry caves
A raspberry cave at Flickorna Lundgren

1. The Lundgren girls – Skäret

Ute pa Kullahalvön is one of Sweden's most famous and well-written cafés - Flickorna Lundgren. Incredibly popular and incredibly nice - it's worth fighting for a parking space here! Sit in the garden with a plate of classic cakes and a copper kettle of coffee, or enjoy a record-breaking "egg cake". Scanian so it sings about it!

2. Gourmetgården – Malmö/Katrinetorp

Just outside Malmö on fina Katrinetorp Landeri, you'll find Gourmetgården. In a flamboyant courtyard among starlings, apples and roses, there is a small oasis that serves coffee and lunch. I ordered salmon, which was served with a fresh salad of freshly harvested vegetables, coriander flowers and watercress. Well prepared, inspiring and beautifully laid out - a lunch that made me both full and happy!

Gourmetgården not only has lunch, but also a large selection of cakes and tarts. They looked at least as tempting and beautiful as the lunch.

3. Franskan's crêperie - Rörum

Franskans is not really a cafe, but a crêperie with the most perfect galettes and crêpes. We had lunch here in the sunshine in the cozy backyard and although we had to wait a long time for a table, it was worth it. If you're hungry, tuck into a hearty galette. Do you have a sweet tooth? Order a crêpe with coffee or cider. A place worth a detour Österlen!

4. Systrarna på solhjulet - Web red

Systrarna på solhjulet we found by chance when we went castle hunting in the Scanian countryside. This is something as lovely as a family-owned seasonal farm cafe serving cakes, tarts, lunch and brunch in a fabulously beautiful garden. We have been here and had both lunch (see the buttercream above) and coffee, but would very much like to try their brunch as well. However, it needs to be pre-ordered. Settle down among the luxuriant greenery and garden art and enjoy the tranquility. There are also a lot of animals here, to the delight of all children.

Note: Systrarna på solhjulet had closed summer 2023, hope they open again this year!

5. Hylkegården – Simrishamn

A place that we often stop at when we go to Österlen, is Hylkegården. Just as cozy in autumn as in summer and with an old-fashioned feel. One of the times we were here, the coffee was served from copper jugs and you could choose to order a plate with seven types of cakes. Unfortunately they didn't have this on the menu when we were here last, but we have to hope they come back. Cozier than copper jugs and seven kinds of cookies is hard to find - I love classic cookies like jam caves and oat flakes! Don't miss the well-stocked shop next to the cafe, it's worth a visit.

6. Blåherremölla – Degeberga

On a historic farm from the 18th century with Sweden's best-preserved water mill, you will find a café that is guaranteed to make you feel the wings of history. During weekends in the summer, you will find home-baked cakes, sandwiches and waffles here. No frills, just fantastically good cakes in a classic Scanian setting. Blåherremolla is run by the passionate Ingmar Melin and his family and a non-profit association. If you get the chance to meet Ingmar, I hope you get to hear his stories about the farm and its history. They make the coffee taste extra good! Take the opportunity to buy a package of freshly ground flour from the farm - you won't find this kind of quality flour at ICA!
NOTE: The cafe is only open on certain weekends during the summer term, so check the calendar on their website to make sure it's open.

7. Lotta på Åsen

What's better when you've hiked in Söderåsen National Park than a freshly baked waffle and coffee served in a copper kettle? Lotta på Åsen is located on the north side of Söderåsen outside Ljungbyhed. There is a large garden here, but also some indoor seats if the weather is not on your side. Otherwise, the best choice is "seven kinds of cookies", where you choose home-baked cookies from an overflowing cookie table.

8. Olof Viktors – Glemmingebro

A classic café in Österlen that won café of the year in the White Guide a few years ago. Is it still as good? I say yes! We tried a lunch here during a rainy day in July. Although the queues were long, the food held up to the pressure! I can especially recommend the crayfish tail sandwiches - both nutritious and affordable!

Don't miss to visit Olof Viktor's shop, here they not only sell their incredibly good cookies (is there anything better than a small dry cookie?) but also their own sourdough bread, muesli, crackers, marmalade and teas.

9. Krapperups kaffestuga - Nyhamn location

At Krapperup Castle, 1 mile north of Helsingborg, there is a cozy coffee house in premises that were once everything from a forge to a pig pen. Here you will find a very large selection of cakes and tarts, but also soups, salads and sandwiches. Everything is well thought out, from the cute little signs by the cakes to the decoration on the cakes. I bit into a meringue cake and a chocolate ball with licorice. The rest of the family tried everything from pie to chocolate ball. Everything was just as good as it looked (except for my meringue cake in the picture which fell apart - but I promise it tasted divine!).

10. Kaffestugan Alunbruket - Brösarp

Close to Brösarp's slopes is Skåne's oldest café - Kaffestugan Alunbruket. Here in the beautiful half-timbered house, cookies and sandwiches have been baked since 1930, when Hilda Nilsson opened the café. Today, the coffee house is still in the same family and the fourth generation still bakes according to Hilda's recipe. The only novelty that I saw had slipped into the menu was a cheesecake, the rest felt almost original. Don't miss ordering the mixed cookie platter - love the cookie platter concept.

11. Eriksgården – Sjöbo

Eriksgården is not really a traditional café, but a berry farm. Here, most things revolve around the berries grown on the farm – strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. During the summer, Eriksgården has a very popular berry buffet, where for a fixed price you can eat as many berries, ice cream, cookies, crackers, meringues and toppings as you can handle. A paradise for berry lovers! Is there anything tastier than perfectly sun-ripened berries, picked straight from the bushes? If you're going to have coffee here, make sure you have plenty of time for dinner, because it's hard to stop eating!

Eriksgården also has a nice little farm shop, where you will not only find berries and delicacies - but also furnishings.

The visit to Blåherremölla was made in connection with a press trip to Kristianstad by Tillväxt Kristianstad, but all opinions and thoughts are, as usual, my own.

  1. Have you tried Vissmarlöv's bakery? I miss it on an otherwise lovely list. Tirup's herb garden is also nice and the cake buffet at Stenshuvud. Outside Hässleholm there is also a tree café. Personally, however, I am not so fond of the famous Olof Viktors.

    • We were on our way to Vismarlöv this weekend, but hadn't booked, so we regretted it. I don't like queuing :) I'll have to try Tirup's herb garden next time we go to Malmö! Looks super cozy! Thanks for the tips please!

    • How fun! I did not know that! There is a lot of cozy things around Eslöv! :) By the way, have a very funny story from café Borggården that includes a dustpan, a pair of glasses and a pond....

  2. It really has been far too long since I was in Skåne. Of the cafes you list, I have only had coffee at Flickorna Lundgren and all the other places also look absolutely wonderful.
