Coffee in Plzen (Pilsen) - 4 lovely cafes - Czech Republic

  • The Czech Republic has a long tradition of coffee drinking and even though Plzen is a beer city, there are plenty of good cafes here. Come along to four of the city's most beautiful cafes - a pink one, a social one, a healthy one and a petite one!

Cafes have a special place in the hearts of Czechs. Throughout the years, people have gathered here to discuss literature, politics, music, work or love. A cafe in the Czech Republic is not only a place to grab a quick coffee, but here you can often also order a glass of wine, a cocktail or a beer and turn the visit into a full evening.

In the Czech Republic, there are large espresso machines everywhere where coffee is served and on the menu you will find international favorites such as espresso, flat white and cappuccino. If you want to try something more local, order one in Turecká káva - "Turkish coffee" which has nothing to do with Turkey, but is more reminiscent of classic boiled coffee.

During my long weekend in Plzen at Christmas time, I took the opportunity to rest my legs and warm up with a coffee at four lovely cafes. One small, one pastel, one classic and one healthy!

1. Smile Frenchie

Pink, mint green and filled with flowers. Le Frenchie is a pastel oasis right by the town square (Náměstí Republiky). There are always a lot of people here and the steam from the coffee machine is constantly puffing. The pastries are large and always have an abundance of cream, fluff and goodies. Cocktails, beer and wine are also served.

2. Café Regner

In armchairs that breathe early 20th century, poets and smoking rooms, classical Café Regneroffers you a all-nighter. The crowd is quite young and trendy and the prices are relatively low. Borrow a book, order a large pot of tea and settle into the lively venue. In the summer you can sit outside on their balcony, but now in the winter the coziness is maxed indoors. Wine, beer and cocktails are also served. I could easily sit here for a whole evening with an exciting book and nice company!

3. The Fresh Bar

At the town square is also The Fresh Bar, the only place on the list that "only" serves coffee, cakes, sandwiches and smoothies. Settle down among large green plants and loads of fruit and feel like you're in Bali. What is served here should be a little more healthy and suitable for those who are looking for a delicious snack or light lunch. In the summer, there are plenty of tables outside where you have a view of the square.

4. Dad Coffee

Last and indeed also smallest – Pappa Coffee is a great little coffee spot with a separate lounge for those who don't just want to have a quick coffee. The cafe is owned by father and son and they roast all the coffee themselves. There aren't many cakes here, but there are drinks and wine. If you like the coffee (which you will) you can buy home bags of their own coffee beans.
