FAQ
Road trips
In Australia you drive on the left. If it is the first time you drive on the left side, do not pick up the rental car directly at the airport when you land. You need to be alert and fresh in the head to head out on the roads!
Shake your shoes
There are a lot of small insects in Australia and a lot of spiders. If you want to be sure not to get bitten by an insect - always shake out your shoes before putting them on.
You don't swim on the beaches
As beautiful as the beaches are in North Queensland, most Australians prefer to swim in a pool. In the summers (October to April) there are both deadly jellyfish and saltwater crocodiles in the sea. So if you want to avoid these beasts when you go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, you should go there during the winter (June to August)
Winter in Australia
During the Australian summers, temperatures often exceed the 40-degree mark. We went to Western Australia during their winter, when the average temperatures correspond to Swedish summer. A clearly better choice - even if it may rain for a few days.
Coming
I'm only saying this once. Do not bring anything edible or anything that lives (or has ever lived)! Read it carefully and go on red if you are the least bit unsure! I always go for red when in doubt, so I can confirm that IKEA's wooden pencils and shoes with wooden heels are OK.
